Ways Telemedicine Services Can Make Drug And Alcohol Recovery Easier

Deciding that you’re going to free yourself from an addiction is one of the bravest steps you can take. Drug and alcohol recovery has come a long way in recent years. At Outreach Recovery, we’re always trying to adopt new technologies that we believe would help our patients reach their goals.  Our telemedicine services are here to support patients who participate in our Towson program. If you’re interested in learning more about them, let’s get started.

Your Quick Guide to Telemedicine

Telemedicine is used throughout various medical specialties. In short, it involves delivering medical services using phone calls, texts, webchats, and video conferencing. The aim is to give patients fast access to the services they require. It also helps those who are living in a remote location and may struggle to get medical advice.

At Outreach Recovery, we’ve found that telemedicine makes it easier for patients to stay in touch. Not everyone wants to participate in an inpatient recovery program. Because of this, we offer outpatient services. We believe that those who use our outpatient services, deserve the same level of support and care as those who use inpatient treatments. To make this possible, we use telemedicine services as part of our programs.

How Telemedicine Is Used in Addiction Recovery

At Outreach Recovery, we use a variety of approaches to help our patients through their addiction recovery programs. In addition to using recovery drugs such as suboxone, we focus on talking therapies. As our patients withdraw from the substance they’re addicted to, they’ll experience a range of emotions and physical sensations that make their journey challenging. To ensure they don’t slip back into their addiction, we provide them with support.

Our telemedicine services are used alongside visits to ensure you’re progressing with your recovery. We use phone calls and video chats to discuss how you’re feeling about the program. We can also deliver some of our therapies using telemedicine.

The use of telemedicine services allows you to fit your recovery around other aspects of your life. Many of our patients choose outpatient therapy because they don’t want to leave their family or their home. By making your recovery more flexible, we ensure it’s accessible and there to help you return to your previous way of life.

Other Therapies Used in Our Intensive Program

Although telemedicine services form an important part of our programs, they’re mainly designed to act as an adjunct to our other therapies. One of our most effective therapies is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT involves challenging some of the negative beliefs and thought processes that have resulted in your addiction. Our aim is to help you overcome destructive thought patterns and focus on healthier choices. Using telemedicine, we can see whether the coping mechanisms you develop as a part of CBT are helping you break free from addiction.

We also use mindfulness therapies as a part of our intensive outpatient program. Some people who form addictions do so because they’re unable to accept the reality of the present moment. They may spend a lot of time worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. Drug and alcohol use acts as a way of masking negative emotions. Mindfulness aims to help our patients accept the present moment without feeling the need to alter it. When our patients complete their mindfulness programs, they’re less likely to use drugs and alcohol.

At Outreach Recovery, we use our telemedicine services to make our patients’ journeys easier. If you’d like to know more about how they work, or if you want to make an appointment, call 888.897.9284.
